Breast cancer reflection

The finding was made through a study from the Breast Cancer and the Environment Research Program at Michigan State University, which indicated that before any umors appear, there are changes in the breast that include increased cell growth and alterations in immune cells. I believe this is a great topic for a health science class for students, has many other broader areas of work and subject to further discuss such disease and preventions that can be made and helps teachers have more knowledge as to what diseases can be prevented from articles like this one..This article helps a lot in a health science class. In health science it is important to teach students the different diseases that are killing many out there and the early reventions that can help reduce the risk of it become a disease, in this case, cancer. In a health science class, we can discuss food groups and differentiate what are high fat diet foods. Also, we can deeply discuss puberty, which usually half of them know, b ecause even their parents are too shy to discuss such topic.Sometimes students see changes in their body and have no idea why, and I think this subject links puberty to a well discussed topic in a classroom. Finally, being able to discuss breast cancer, and other cancers can link a great topic for a health science class, discussing hat is a cancer, how it develops, how it is reduced and moreover and most important, how it can be prevented.Discussing about how high fat diet plans during puberty increases the risk of breast cancer, we as teachers can link this topic in other subject so students grasp the information, share it with their families and spread what can save a life in their community. In English, writing essays as to how you would inform the community of what high fat diet during puberty can cause can link the topic. In social studies, students can be engaged in the global social month of cancer awareness which is in the month of October. And finally linking health science with English, and social studies, to help more and broaden such article, we can engage in different arts and craft that visually help to explain students and others of how we help in cancer awareness, know what it is and how we can spread the word. Articles like this one are very important to students and teachers for the betterment of self-knowledge and also to help the community. While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same.We have made a lot f progress but still have a long way to go and articles like these make us have a broader idea of what can cause it and instead of finding ways to prevent it, once and for all be able to avoid it by taking the necessary steps to live better, longer and healthier. Students, females in this case are able to also avoid un-healthy dietary plans and take more care ot them and us as teachers not only help increase the cancer k nowledge of what can cause it to our students but moreover help our students share the information and make our community help a nation with more information flowing for the betterment of everyone.

Discuss expectancy effects in research

Psychological experimentation is a process aimed to prove that certain types of behavior are predictable under particular situations or treatment conditions. These treatment conditions are manipulated in such a way that the setting created by the experimenters will invoke participants to display behavior towards the independent variable in regularity. This, in turn, will verify the experimenters’ hypotheses regarding the behavior in question. Hence, through experimentation, causal inferences between the independent and dependent variables can be reached. However, experimentations do not always go as planned. There are times when experimenters overlook various factors that may wrongly or unnecessarily affect the results of the experiment. These factors are known as extraneous variables, variables that are not the main focus of the study yet may produce variations in behavior. When extraneous variables become frequent and change systematically across different conditions of an ex periment, results can be confounded. One of the more popularly known consequences of extraneous variables is the Placebo Effect.Hansen and Myers (2002) explain that this is a type of social extraneous variable wherein participants react to the independent variable according to how they expect the independent variable to affect them (p. 196). Since the behavior of the participants is based on their expected effects, changes that occur may less likely be due to the independent variable. This indeed lowers the internal validity, thereby causing the results of the study to be invalid and inaccurate. In other circumstances, the experimenters are exactly the ones creating venues for extraneous variables to affect experimentations. Like the Placebo effect’s consequence, Experimenter Effect decreases internal validity in such a way that the extraneous variable causes changes in the dependent variable, not the independent variable of the experiment. This happens when the experimenters behave in a certain manner when dealing with participants (Hansen & Myers, 2002, p. 198).This may trigger participants to respond in a particular way between or among treatment conditions in order to fulfill the experimenters’ non-verbal cues. Fortunately, this effect may be controlled through a method called Double-blind experiment, say Hansen and Myer. This technique—when combined with consistency of instructions and processes, and objectivity of observations—can prevent the decrease in internal validity for both the experimenters and participants are not aware or are â€Å"blinded† with regard to the treatment condition they are handling or partaking, respectively (2002, p. 02).Since both parties have no idea on the nature of the treatment conditions they are assigned to, no bias or extraneous variables shall therefore arise and results produced shall be correct. For instance, it is deemed that caffeine keeps individuals alert and awake. This may be fu rther tested through an experiment, with a hypothesis which states that caffeine can improve night driving for tired drives. The independent variable here is the presence or absence of caffeine in the coffee drank by the participants while the dependent variable is their performance in a car-racing video game, specifically their recorded speed after three laps. In order for both the experimenters and the participants to respond without bias, the Double-blind Method can be applied. Given that coffee does ward off drowsiness and stimulate attentiveness, what remains to be critical is the effect of caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee on performance.Since the participants do not actually know if the coffee they are to drink has caffeine in it or not, they cannot behave based on what they think is expected from them. Likewise, the experimenters shall not be able to give indications or implications regarding the nature of the treatment condition the participants are in since they are also unaware of this. Thus, if the participants performed better subsequent to drinking caffeinated coffee or vice versa, experimenters will be sure that the presence or absence of coffee is responsible for this and not an extraneous variable.

Topic of your choice Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words - 1

Topic of your choice - Term Paper Example The resulting electron radiation is released in bundles of light energy which travel at a speed of 299  792  458 m / s, equivalent to the speed of light, as quantized harmonic waves. This electromagnetic waves are grouped according to their wavelength and the this results in the electromagnetic spectrum. The resultant magnetic and electric waves move perpendicularly to each other having certain characteristics which are Amplitude, frequency and wavelength. The movement of the electromagnetic waves is in form of patterns. The distance that exists between two peaks is the wavelength of the wave. The wavelength of a waveform is measured in meters. This is illustrated in the figure below. Frequency can be defined as the number of oscillations of the wave per unit time. The frequency of waves is not constant, it varies and the variation greatly depends on the type and nature of the electromagnetic radiation. The frequency of a wave is measured in Hertz. The wave can have high frequency or low frequency as indicated in the diagram below. This is the process in which two waves superposes to form one resultant wave. For interference to occur, the source of the waves must be coherent. If two electromagnetic waves having the same frequency get together i.e. they superpose, it results into a wave which has the resultant magnetic and electric field strength equal to the sum of fields of the two waves. When two strong waves moving that have their fields moving in one direction, i.e. same direction in time and space, the resulting waveform is twice that of each individual waveform (Encyclopà ¦dia Britannica Online). This results in constructive interference. However, the superposition of a wave having an electric field in one direction in space and with another electromagnetic radiation wave which has the same frequency but with

Responses Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Responses - Assignment Example It is time for our laws to be changed for the better and place some confidence in the parents. Traditionally, researchers like Cook and Kopko (2014) have discouraged this practice. Possibly, you should look into the benefits of allowing parents this right! I recommend researching the question â€Å"What can be done to stop drug abuse among teenagers?† Although the topic has been researched before and there is plentiful research reporting the causes, effects, and strategies for prevention of drug abuse among teenagers, yet the sensitivity and gravity of the issue demands more research and knowledge-creation. However, if you want to specifically research ways of discouraging teenagers from consuming prescription pills as drugs, the question should be focused at prescription pills’ abuse rather than drug abuse in a general sense. Teenagers, their parents, nurses, and doctors are some categories of people whose input you must take for the data. Hall et al. (2010) is one of the sources you may consider to find out what all is known about the abuse of prescription drugs so

Contingency Theory and Global Leadership Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Contingency Theory and Global Leadership - Essay Example Since, parties in a global market come from diverse backgrounds, global leaders have challenges in assessing the diverse demands of the parties (The Leadership Trust, 2008). Indeed, every cultural group has different demands. Moreover, the existence of boundaries between geographies and markets derives complexities in assessing the demands of parties in different geographies since there are no universal demands that apply to all geographies (The Leadership Trust, 2008). The rapid global impact of unforeseen events poses a great challenge to the global leaders since they cannot predict the occurrence and the effects of such events on the demand and thus assessing the demands of a situation given a global role. A global leader will also encounter challenges that emanate from social, economic, and political change. The global leader will also face the challenge of developing a creative approach in assessing the demand and implementing the solutions to various problems in the global mark et. Furthermore, lack of inspiring visions that can apply across cultural and organizational boundaries without losing meaning is also a challenge in assessing demands of a situation given a global role (The Leadership Trust, 2008). ... Developing self-reflective leadership, effective conflict resolution, and adopting diversity in the management and assessing demand will resolve the problems associated with assessing demand in a global situation. Moreover, the practice of creating global ethics and global strategies that will be flexible to multicultural differences will be very fundamental in this case (O’Brien, 2009). The creation of a vision and strategy as well as systems that managers can manage would play a significant role in resolving the above named problems. Furthermore, the presence of a Global Leadership and Public Policy as well the focus on organization and teamwork would help in addressing the challenges related to assessing demand in a global situation. Indeed, we can adopt the leadership theories to develop an organizational design that would relate to the global challenges in this context. A practice that relates to the situational variables and establishing an organization with internal fea tures that matches the demands of the diverse environments will help in assessing the demands in a global situation. The contingency theory asserts that there is no one best way to organize and that any way of organizing is not equally effective. The Contingency Theory asserts that a global leader must match their leadership style with the situational demands (Northouse, 2012). Ideally, the contingency theory confirms that no leadership style suits all situations and that specific variable like the dynamics of the situation, leadership style, and characteristics of the followers define the success of any leadership style. Personally, I experienced this when our marketing manager used contingency theory in a global role

Death penalty Essay Example for Free

Death penalty Essay First, in your own words define, then compare and contrast the following concepts: Genera deterrence- punishment for crime to scare others not to commit the same crime. Specific deterrence- punishment of a crime that prevents the offender from repeating the same offense again. Incapacitation- punishment of keeping offenders in jail so they can’t repeat offense again in society. Retribution-punishment fairly justly due to the severity of the crime. Then, apply these concepts to the ways in which VIOLENT offenders are sentenced in todays courts. Sentences are based on the severity of the offenses being committed. Punishment can be based on certain factors of the crime. Violent offenders can be sentenced to death or incarceration of life. Using general deterrence it supposed to stop others from committing similar crimes. Specific deterrence is a way to avoid offenders from repeating their crimes. Keeping criminals incarcerated away from society, is the practice of keeping criminal of the street. Retribution punishes the criminal based on their action from the crime committed. Present your views on the death penalty as it exists today in the United States. You must present at least one case from law concerning the use of [for or against] the death penalty. Finally, examine your states rules concerning the use of the death penalty. I have nothing against the death penalty, but I’m not God either. If a person can go on a killing spree for instance like a serial killer, I feel that they should be held accountable. The old saying an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, kind of makes me think of the death penalty. A life for a life, but does that give back the life of the one taken. I have various few on the death penalty. Certain situations require it others I feel are unnecessary. Does that make me bias? I’ve heard some people say they’re against it, for reasons as the offenders suffers more by living day to day knowing they have taken someone’s life. Not all offenders have a conscious so when that comes into play, how the offender does suffers for their crime committed? Kennedy v. Louisiana US Supreme Court, 554 U.S.June 25, 2008 Petitioner Patrick Kennedy was convicted and sentenced to death in Louisiana for the aggravated rape of his then 8 year-old stepdaughter. A Louisiana state statute authorized capital punishment for the rape of a child under 12. The State Supreme Court affirmed the statute, rejecting petitioner’s reliance on Coker v. Georgia, which prevented the use of capital punishment for the rape of an adult woman. The Supreme Court concluded that the Eighth Amendment bars Louisiana from imposing the death penalty for the rape of a child where the crime did not result, and was not intended to result, in the victim’s death.

The United States Essay Example for Free

The United States Essay 3. Is there sufficient evidence in sources A to F to explain why there was an anti-war movement in the United States during the late 1960s and early 1970s? Source A gives sufficient evidence because it tells us many recruits were of low intelligence, this shows to us that the American government had become quite desperate by introducing conscription. The US was using all its resources which is a good reason for there being an anti-war movement. In this source it tells that most US troops died in the first six months. This indicates to us that there were few experienced troops and the American policy of only giving soldiers a one year tour of duty meant that more soldiers were to die, all because of a lack of experience. However most importantly is the fact that inexperienced US troops were thrown against experienced guerrillas fighting on their own terrain. This shows the situation the US troops faced which is good reason for an anti-war movement because so many soldiers would die needlessly. This source may not be sufficient because there are no facts, no statistics and no details. This is all based on unfounded claims. This source does not go into much detail regarding the mental stresses the soldiers were faced with. Also the source does not give information about the Viet Cong and their actions. These reasons are important in why there was an anti-war movement. Source B is very sufficient to explain why there was an anti-war movement because it is a photographic image and not the opinion of a person who may be biased. This source represents many graphic images from Vietnam. It shows to us that there was an anti-war movement because this was the first televised war. People realized what was happening so there would have been much opposition to the war This photo shows what American involvement has done. The only problem with this photo is that there is no evidence to support that the US did this. Source C is sufficient because it shows the difficulties US troops faced. It was by a journalist, which meant it could be read my most Americans. When people hear about these facts they do not want their sons and husbands having to fight like this. Also this source shows the effects on the Vietnamese people from US weapons. When people learn of this they are less supportive of a war and are therefore anti-war. The problem of this source is that it was written for a newspaper and the newspaper might have an anti-war stance and be biased about the problems described by the journalist. Source D is sufficient because it is showing how the Vietnam War is crippling the American society and economy. Americans want to preserve their society and not bankrupt it in order to support a war, this gives good evidence for there being an anti-war movement. Also this is a British source and being an ally of the US, it would be expected to support US actions. However it is not supporting the US in this source which indicates an anti-war movement, not just in the US but also abroad. This source shows that Lyndon is destroying his Great Society scheme of helping to needy in America. This is good evidence for an anti-war movement because it is affecting America internally. Many oppose this war because it is affecting them as well as those involved in the fighting. Source E is very sufficient to explain an anti-war movement because it tells how the American people can see how savage war really is. This is a very good reason for why there is an anti-war movement because people now know the reality of war and want it to be stopped. It really tells us that it was stupid that a democratic country did not censor the TV. Source F is the film Born on the Fourth of July. It is very sufficient in explaining why there was an anti-war movement because it starts off in the life of an all-American boy who is proud and patriotic. He joins the marines and serves in Vietnam. While in Vietnam he is wounded and left disabled which means that he can go home. When he arrives back his attitude is changed because of his horrific experiences of war. This source gives good reason for anti-war movement because it shows life of someone who has really experienced it all. This is a real life story which is why it is so sufficient in explaining the reason for an anti-war.
